Individuals appointed to postdoctoral ranks at Brown University may engage in compensated work beyond the scope of their primary responsibilities in accordance with University policy. Their ability to do so depends on their appointment type, their funding source, and—if applicable—the terms of their visa. All postdoctoral appointees must comply with University policies on conflict of interest and commitment and outside professional activities, including intellectual property, and use of University resources. Requests must be reviewed by the cognizant dean’s office on a case-by-case basis and in consultation with other relevant University partners, which may include the Office of Sponsored Projects, BioMed Research Administration, the Office of International Students and Scholar Services (OISSS), or the Office of the Dean of the Faculty.
