Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDRA) are eligible for the schedule of paid University holidays as outlined here by University Human Resources. Holidays when the University is closed do not count against accrued vacation time.

A PDRA who is required to work on a University holiday will receive an alternate day off, approved in advance by their supervisor.

Questions about holiday observances for members of the BPLO bargaining unit should be directed to your department’s HR Business Partner or to Employee and Labor Relations at employeeandlaborrelations@brown.edu.

For religious holidays not observed on the University’s holiday calendar, Postdoctoral Research Associates may request time off using Vacation Time in Workday.

The dates for this year’s Winter Break are available here on the University Human Resources website. The Winter Break schedule is announced annually by University Human Resources.

With the exception of the Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day holidays, Winter Break days are not official University holidays. These days do not count against a PDRA’s accrued vacation time.

If a principal investigator or sponsoring department requires a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to work during the Winter Break, the department will designate alternate days off to be approved in advance.

Please note that postdoctoral appointees in the BPLO bargaining unit are not eligible for overtime compensation or compensatory time off.

Please refer to the terms and conditions of your fellowship for guidance. Postdoctoral Fellows and Postdoctoral Research Fellows should coordinate time away from work with their PI and department and ensure that their schedule is consistent with the requirements of their funding source. Please note that NIH T32 trainees are entitled to the same vacation time and holidays as comparable training positions at their sponsoring institution.
